King Kammen, the tyrant of the ancient citadel of Checagou, built a mighty temple on the northern shores of The Great Lake. He’d forced his people to build the temple in hopes the magics it channeled from a long forgotten God of Death would keep him alive forever, so when he died soon after the temple was completed,  it was kind of hilarious. Quickly after his body was interred in his tomb, the people of Checagou tore down his statues, killed his allies, and moved on. But the temple remained, far enough from the city (he loathed the smell) to be ignored for years, decades, and now, untold centuries.

Today, Checagou is a bustling port city, thriving and far better smelling. People try to avoid getting too close to the Temple, and those that have tried to seek the treasure within have never been seen again. Strange monsters are said to have settled within the crumbling ruin, and there are even rumors that Kammen’s prayers to the God of Death were heard and he was given eternal life, but cursed to never leave the temple walls.
